The following is for informational use only, author(s)
are not responsible for damage or any other expense caused by the use of
this information. In all cases of jacking up the car, or using
tools, BE CAREFUL and DO IT PROPERLY. Parking brake, wheel chocks,
and jack stands are NOT OPTIONAL, they are NECESSARY. Always
disconnect the negative battery lead where electronics or welding are
involved, and make sure the lead is touching nothing but air. Be
safe, and have fun. See the
Safety Tips page for
more info. The easy fix was to adjust out the rubber stoppers on the trunklid. Unfortunately, this did not work for long. Try #2 is to add a second spring onto the trunklid mechanism. I used a 3/4" x 2.5" spring found at Home Depot. See the pictures for before and after. Hopefully this time it works for good. You just have to pull the carpet back away from the mechanism and stretch the spring on with pliers as shown. I found it easier to put the spring in the top hole first then hook it over the bottom of the existing spring. If it works this way for a few weeks, I'm going to remove the factory spring completely, the new one is tighter and looks like it will be okay on its own. |
