CAREFUL and DO IT PROPERLY. Parking brake, wheel chocks, and jack stands
are NOT OPTIONAL, they are NECESSARY. Always disconnect the negative
battery lead where electronics or welding are involved, and make sure the
lead is touching nothing but air. Be safe, and have fun. See the

page for more info. This was a pretty simple install, the only hard part is removing the console. You need to get the emergency brake up into a vertical position by using a screwdriver to unlatch it from the brake mechanism. Rather than try to explain it, check out the procedure on www.installuniversity.com. It is actually pretty easy to do. Once you do this, remove the boot (CAREFUL!!!), upper console, and lower console according to the instructions. Then the lower seal, etc. The instructions I read said to put a bead of RTV gasket maker on the bottom of the shifter, but it seems more accurate to put it on the transmission side. Just clean both parts real well, and don't get any in the bolt holes. I actually did get some down in there (oops), but its gonna be messy if I ever want to change the shifter again. Also, when trimming the boot, the picture included is not to scale, the hole diameter is about 3.25 inches, but cut it to 3, see how it fits and sketch where you need to cut (it is a bit off center from the old hole) then trim it again. It should fit snugly underneath the top ring of the shifter (see above pic). Also, the shifter comes with the bolts to the stick hand tightened, make sure to tighten them with a 6mm Hex Wrench. Adjust and tighten the stop bolts, put it back together, and you're done. Check out the Lou's Short Stick page for the next logical mod. |
